I actually agree with Jonathan Myerson's Independent article on the
dreadfulness of most Shakespeare productions in the UK. Having sat
through a stultifying absurd performance of Macbeth in north London I
can understand each and every argument he writes. I always think that
television is Shakespeare's best medium, but the BBC have produced some
real soporific stinkers. The whole question of translating Shakespeare
into English is one that I would love to investigate. Can it be done?
