Subject: The Amateur

Christopher Plummer plays a professor and spymaster who is a member of
the Bacon society and a proponent of the theory that Bacon wrote
Shakespeare's plays in a 1981 20th Ct. Fox film called The Amateur. The
hero, played by Jon Savage, who is writing a book on Elizabeth ciphers,
attends a lecture by Plummer on Bacon and Shakespeare where Plummer
reads the entire epilogue of The Tempest (which is also shown on an
overhead behind him) in English (with an accent) while commenting on it
in Czech. Another highlight is the beautiful and very expressive Marte
Keller, who plays the love interest. She is sensibly skeptical of
Plummer's theory, while Savage remains open to persuasion.

Unfortunately, the film is not available on video or DVD.
