I realise that I haven't answered one of Mike's questions.  In the
Arcola Theatre production there was not a lot of differentiation between
the two characters, apart from that suggested by the text itself - that
is to say, Kate was usually angry and upset, while Maria was calmer,
firmer and more confident.
