Subject: BadTrans Virus
Dear Friends,
PLEASE NOTE: I did not deliberately send those garbled messages to
anyone!
Apparently, the BadTrans virus has gotten into my computer (via an
e-mail that was probably sent to me by someone else's infected
computer!) and has sent a bunch of e-mail without my knowing it. Many on
the ATEG listserv seem to have been attacked. I'm in the midst of trying
to get rid of the virus, myself. Whatever you do, don't open any
attachments! You may need to do as I have done and download a virus
removal program from Symantec or some other anti-virus software
provider.
I am dealing with this problem EVERY DAY! It keeps coming back via
returned messages, etc. I've been pulling out my hair, apologizing, and
forwarding similar messages to many friends and relatives.
If you have the attachment, DON'T hit the reply or forward buttons; that
will only help spread the virus.
Regretfully and frustratedly,
Paul E. Doniger
