You mean the sequel: America Strikes Back?

P.S.: Sorry if I'm being obnoxious. This has been my first chance to
read the list all of a trying semester.

Although, as Science Fiction fantasy, Star Wars looks and feels
futuristic, we should not forget that, like Der Ring, it is set "A long
time ago..."

Of course it is not surprising that Wagner wrote about the collapse of
the European imperial aristocracy, having been a fully-paid-up member of
the radicals who fomented revolution in 1848: indeed, the libretto (or
poem, if you like) for "Siegfried's Death" (Gotterdamerung) was
completed in that revolutionary year. There are many connections that
can be made to link 1848 to 1914.

Surely a Shakespeare discussion group ought to be more into Verdi,
though?

        Du holdes Voglein!
        Dich hort' ich noch nie:
bist du im Wald hier daheim?
        Verstund' ich sein SuBes Stammein,
        gewiB stagt' es mir was...
Entrat' ich der Worte, achte der Weise,
        sing' ich so seine Sprache,
versteh' ich wohl auch, was es spricht...
