Regarding whether it's possible to play Jonson without cutting: I saw
the uncut RSC production of Volpone with Richard Griffith in the Pit at
the Barbican back in the mid-80s. It certainly held the audience I was
in for the full 4 hours. And, by the way, the happiest audience I've
ever been in at Stratford was watching the Notting Hill Carnival version
of Bartholomew Fair in the Swan a couple of seasons ago.
