Subject: Re: The Tempest at the University of Cincinnati
It's interesting that the University of Cincinnati converted the
brothers Prospero and Antonio to the sisters Prospero and Antonia just
as Oregon Shakespeare Festival has done this year. I wonder if these
changes are due to the scarcity of women's roles throughout Shakespeare.
It seems that U of Cincinnati was able to come up with four more women's
roles by also putting Sycorax on stage and splitting Ariel into male and
female roles.
Would anyone else like to comment on the lack of females roles in
Shakespeare and what some productions do about it?
