Subject: Pyramus and Thisbe Query
In a month, I am to present at a conference on the topic of using
Shakespeare films in the classroom.
After considering a number of possibilities, I have decided to
concentrate on the Pyramus and Thisbe scene in the Hoffman version, a
film a do not particularly care for but a P&T scene like no other I have
ever seen.
All this got me to thinking; I know, of course, the Hall (1968) and the
Reinhardt (1935) well. Are there any other available (preferably on DVD)
Dreams with interesting P&T scenes that any SHAKSPERean would like to
recommend that I view.
Which brings up a question that I have been meaning to ask for years.
According to Andy Davis' *The Beatles Files*, the Beatles first British
television show was the 1963 *Around the Beatles*, which included the
four doing a version of the Pyramus and Thisbe scene. Now, I am having
more than my share of senior moments, but I clearly remember seeing the
Beatles' version of the P&T scene here in the States. I have no
recollection of when or on what television show, but I do remember it -
I do, I do.
My question is does anyone know of any way I might get a tape of this
scene?
I guess on another level, does anyone else Stateside or other remember
either the television show or the scene?
