Not only Julia, but the players of both Emilia and Cassio are also
rather darker than their wonted hue. This version of "Othello" places
him among students at an all-white Carolina school, yet Rain Phoenix
(sister to River and Joaquin) and Andrew Keegan--neither of them
Hispanic, as far as I know--are made to appear quite dark. I kept
waiting for an explanation during the course of the film, but there was
none.
