Why?  That comment was typical of his television persona.  He played
beautifully into the hands of the pro-de Vere group who produced the
"documentary."

I think you are confusing Charlton Ogburn and the present earl of
Burford.  The latter is a descendant of the earl of Oxford; Ogburn wrote
the book referred to in earlier posts.

The research of Dr A. L. Rowse, now no longer with us, was discredited
by many long before his death. His appearance in the film was actually
amusing, rather than unpleasant, as he was well-known for his very high
opinion of himself.
