Subject: 12.2035 In what department does Dr. Burt teach?
Comment: Re: SHK 12.2035 In what department does Dr. Burt teach?

I teach in the English Department. My course is at
http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~eng222sh/

I am not surprised that people in various Departments, including not
only Sociology, Anthropology, and Women Studies but Theater (Rebecca
Schneider), Rhetoric (Linda Williams), History (Lynn Hunt), Media Theory
(Henry Jenkins), Film (Contance Penley and Laura Kipnis), Philosophy
(David Austin), Political Science and Law (Drucilla Conrell), and the
History of Consciousness Program at U.C. Santa Cruz (Susie Bright).
Given that porn cuts across all of these disciplines in different ways,
why shouldn't academics in those disciplines study porn? Moreover,
"porn studies" is arguably the most interdisciplinary of subjects.

Best,
Richard

During our last term, as there were not enough rooms for teaching
available in our department, I had to give my courses in the department
of Theology (almost next door).

It was fun to raise pornographic, historical, anthropological,
psychological and social issues there, but apart from myself nobody else
seemed to notice this. And nobody expected theology either, although
this is what you seem to miss.

God bless you,
Markus Marti
