I check up on this one at least once a year or so, but it's not looking
very good. The folks in NYC who have been chasing after this title for
the past 4 years have run against a wall, since the film company which
produced the film is now defunct and there is no actual human being in
charge in any capacity who can finalize the rights issues.

They're still working on it - and trying to get a whole slew of
incredible Russian films which have fallen out of distribution at the
same time. I'd call and harass them again, but I just spoke to them a
month ago, so I am fairly certain nothing has changed.

There is a website selling a bootleg Russian version (no subtitles).
Perhaps someone can provide the URL.

At least in UK, to the best of my knowledge, this almost definitive
Hamlet is NOT available on video. At least, not that I can find, and I
have tried for a number of years. If anyone does know how to locate it,
I should be eternally grateful. Music by Dmitri Shostakovich, and as
others have said, b/w photography of absolutely sterling quality. The
opening sequence alone is worth the entrance money, as they say.
