I seem to recall visiting a town to the north of London called Saffron
Walden, which I believe did not produce saffron, but was so called
because of the immense presence of a yellow wildflower, but perhaps the
real item was made there, too. There is also an old English folk song
which ends to the chorus of "'Tis Hey For Saffron Walden" or somesuch.
