Subject: Waking the Dead
Those who are interested in Shakespearean themes in popular culture
might be interested in a two-part BBC1 offering that started last night,
concluding tonight. This is part of the sporadic "Crime Doubles"
series, this one entitled "Waking the Dead," concerning the adventures
of a forensic detection unit. The current story has several strong
Hamlet themes:
A well-known war photographer dies in an auto accident. It is not clear
whether this is suicide, accident or murder. The photographer's wife
promptly marries the photographer's less-glamorous but more-available
brother...much to the disgust of the photographer's daughter. The
daughter is inspired to investigate her father's death further as a
result of seeing apparitions of her father after his death
(hallucinations? A ghost?). There was a mother-daughter confrontation
in Part I last night that bore some similarity to the closet scene.
Conclusion is tonight on BBC1, 9:00 pm GMT.
Cheers,
Karen
