Subject: A Question about the History Cycle (1)

Joanne Zipay, artistic director of the Judith Shakespeare Company, sent
me the following question. With her permission, I'm addressing the
question to the entire list, knowing that if there is such a resource
available, some of you will know how to find it. If you prefer, you may
address any responses directly to her at

  or I can
forward them to her from on-list responses. Thanks for your help.

Under separate cover, I am also posting a blurb she has prepared
describing the project she is preparing.

Hi Ed -

I'm beginning the complicated process of making casting charts for my
History Cycle - which starts this spring - so I can do all of the
casting. My question for you is this: Do you know of any resource
materials that chart the characters over the whole cycle - for example,
Bolingbroke/Henry 4 is in R2, H4 1&2 -- Hotspur is in R2 and H4 Part 1
-- Well, those are the easy ones -- I'm trying to keep track of all the
Earls and ministers of state and church who sometimes change their
titles in the Dramatis Personae from play to play -- I hope to try to
have the same actor play the same role from play to play, and I want to
make sure I know exactly who everyone is...I am working on my own charts
but would love to cross-reference it with someone else's, and I'm SURE
someone must have done it by now -- Maybe it is published in some book
you know of or listed on the web somewhere?

Thanks for any help!

Talk to you soon!

Joanne
