Of course it's interesting to note the paucity of women voted as
"Greatest Briton". But it would perhaps be more interesting, as the poll
was for "Greatest Briton", to know how each of Great Britain's (or the
United Kingdom's) constituent countries and regions fared. Were voters
allowed to consider Channel Islanders or Ulstermen?
My vote for greatest Englishman would go to Alfred. (Sorry WS!) He was
the only one officially to be awarded the epithet, after all....
