Sean,

I hope others will be able to tell you more that I can, but here is my
sixpence worth.  I say sixpence, because my tiny little coin collection
only has two Elizabethan coins, both sixpence, payable to Beatrice for
leading the horde into hell.

Both (1561 and 1571) are very slightly oval shaped, but are clearly
intended to be round.  I'm not sure if age has withered them, but
neither was struck cleanly as evidenced by the Latin on both being
trimmed when they were struck.  Anyway, they measure about an inch.
Given that they are oval, they are about 15/16 on the short angle, and
exactly an inch on the long.
