Of course, my point was that the high competition and even violence of
sports makes a perfect modern day analogy for war in "O". Not to say
that I dislike sports. I love a good Saturday spent watching college
football ALL DAY long, my beloved L.A. Kings in the Stanley Cup
playoffs, or the Lakers winning another championship.
The point being, sports has become the visceral, vicarious and
first-hand experience that war used to be, especially in the States. And
to make war become high school basketball translates well in Tim Blake
Nelson's "O".
