Subject: Non-Shakespearian Drama Database Version 1.5
Ten SHAKSPERians responded to my request that we form an international
co-operative to improve the 'non-Shakespearian drama database' by adding
data from Harbage Annals. Taking 20 records each, the co-op yesterday
completed work on the first 200 records out of 589 (authors 'Anonymous'
to 'Jasper Fisher').
(The database exists to provide information on all the extant plays
written for the professional London stage from 1567 to 1642. The data is
presented as a webpage containing a live table which can be sorted by
year, author name, title, playing company, genre, etc.)
The database, including the latest work of the co-op, is freely
available at www.totus.org/nsdd.
I now appeal for volunteers to finish the job. Again I propose each
person takes just 20 records and sits with a copy of Harbage Annnals
(first or second edition, not the third) entering data. If 19 people
come forward, we'll have the whole thing done in no time and thus give
the world a free online Annals. Each contributor is of course
acknowledged in the database. Those who contributed to the first round
are urged to sign up for this second round; it will not be assumed that
you are willing.
