Subject: 1981 Cressida
The recent success of some others in appealing to people's memories has
encouraged me to try one of my own.
The 1981 RSC _Troilus and Cressida_, directed by Terry Hands is very
sparsely documented by reviews and production records. Carol Royle
played Cressida, but seems to get only a passing mention from most
critics. If anyone can remember anything about the presentation of
Cressida in this production, particularly with regard to her entrance
into the Greek camp, I would be most grateful.
While I'm about it, when Ian Judge directed the production in 1996, it
seemed to me when I saw it that Victoria Hamilton's Cressida responded
to the kissing greeting of the Greek generals politely but coldly - as
if trying to get out of the situation with the minimum fuss. I have
read responses to the production that saw her as actively enjoying their
advances. Any recollections, opinions or adjudications?
In fact, why don't we go the whole hog? Any Cressidas entering any
Greek camps - how did she take it?
