As someone interested in free speech, I would respectfully ask that Mr.
Doniger either continue to protest when he is offended (anyone who
wishes to may ignore him) or take himself on the list (and spare the
rest of us his futile protests).

Let me begin by saying that I have consistently been an advocate of
self-moderation. Now, I would like to make a suggestion to the
membership. If you feel flamed, attacked, or personally insulted, first
