I have a good deal of sympathy for this point of view, and I regret
contributing to your work load and occasional personal public tensions.
While I shall be happy to embrace your proposal sometimes, and indeed
have in the past, I see two potential problems.
1) There are times when a sling's missile or an arrow hits in a public
place, and it might seem most appropriate to respond publicly.
2) I have blocked the address of three SHAKSPEReans after receiving
off-list mail that I consider to be harassing. Should they write to me,
or anyone else who has blocked their messages, an off-list discussion is
not possible.
Can you perhaps qualify your suggestion?
All the best,
Mike Jensen
[Editor's Note: I haven't any other suggestions now. Let me reflect on
the matter. -Hardy]
