Subject: King Lear's Daughters

It's true enough that Lear himself is 80, and his daughters seem in
their 20's or 30's. Doesn't this stress Lear's amazing virility and what
we today would call his "macho" personality?

Imagine what Lear must have been like in his prime! As I recall, Edward
Alleyn married and fathered a child in his fifties, so it's not unheard
of, though it must have been rather rare 400 years ago.

Dear Colleagues:

Thank you. I shall use Nancy Charlton's info the next time I tackle WS's
most challenging fairy tale.

Cheers,
Michael
