Subject: Richard Hathaway

Greetings to all:

I wondered if anyone knew of any information regarding Richard Hathaway,
the actor, and whether he was related to Frances Hathaway and her
husband Davy Jones who had a troupe of actors in the Stratford area in
the 1580's. (Frances certainly seems to have been a relative of Anne
and co at Shottery). I just saw a fleeting mention of R.H. in a book,
along the lines of he had gone to London, and had either asked for WS'
help, or was surmised to have done so? Can anyone fill me in on the
woeful gaps in my knowledge re this? And is there any more info about
Davy Jones and his troupe? (Park Honan does mention a little bit in his
excellent bio of WS) Coincidentally, one of the characters in my
forthcoming Shakespearean fantasy novel is called Davy Jones--because of
Davy Jones' locker, as he is the first mate on a privateer's ship--but
it tickled my sense of serendipity to discover WS had known a Davy Jones
in the theatre, and that he's even mentioned in Henry IV!
