Body Politics:
The Body and The State in Shakespeare

Eighth Annual Undergraduate Shakespeare Conference
March 14-15, 2003
Susquehanna University
Selinsgrove, PA

Call for Papers

How are bodies represented in Shakespeare's plays? What kinds of bodies
are there? What is the status of bodily pleasures within the plays? How
does the state control various bodies? In what ways is the state
imagined as a body? Are there any connections between the body of the
state and the state of the body? Join us in answering these questions
during Body Politics: The Body and The State in Shakespeare, a Student
Conference held March 14-15, 2003, on the campus of Susquehanna
University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. We are particularly interested
in the examinations of bodies and politics through the perspectives of
gender, race, sexuality, and class.

Please submit a brief abstract or a complete paper to participate in the
conference. Abstracts of papers must be typed and should clearly
indicate the thesis of the paper. Papers should be about eight to ten
pages long, typed, and double-spaced (reading time between fifteen and
twenty minutes). All submissions must include the following
information: title of paper, author's name, complete contact
information, including telephone number, e-mail address, and fax number
if available; institutional affiliation; need for audio-visual
equipment. Abstracts or completed papers MUST be submitted by December
10, 2002. E-mail submissions are encouraged.

Please send inquiries, abstracts, and papers to Rachana Sachdev,
Department of English, Susquehanna University, 514 University Avenue,
Selinsgrove, PA 17870. Phone: 570-372-4200 Fax: 570-372-2774 E-mail:
