Subject:        Throne of Blood on French DVD

Throne of Blood is available on a French DVD (all subtitles are in
French) entitled Le Chateau de L'Araignee.  In addition to a very clear
transfer, it has three nice extras, chief of which is a short
documentary film by Chris Marker (whose brilliant short, La Jetee, was
remade as the excellent 12 Monkeys) on the making of Ran.  There are
also excerpts from a BBC interview with Kurasowa in which he talks about
Throne of Blood.  The French DVD is Region 2 (PAL, not NTSC), so if you
live in the U.S. you need a DVD player that plays all regions and that
either has a built-in converter (from PAL to NTSC t.v. ) or an external
converter attachment.  (Excellent DVD players with built-in converters
are available on the web for under 400 dollars, including shipping.)
