Subject: Notice of New Shakespearean Novel

I wanted to draw the attention of listmembers to the publication of a
new children's novel, The True Prince, by JB Cheaney (Knopf), which is
the second in a series set in Shakespeare's London, indeed in his
company. (The first was The Playmaker). Like the earlier novel, it is
told from the point of view of apprentice actor Richard Mallory, who
joins the company. It is an absorbing, well-written, intelligent,
exciting story with a sober grasp of history, a good exposition of
theatrical practices and an understanding of the time which would give
young people a very good entry into the atmosphere of England at the
time. It's most suitable for readers aged 12 and up, though adults too
would read it with a great deal of pleasure (I know I did). I posted a
review of it on Amazon, incidentally.
