I'm in the library, not at home, so I'm sorry for the sketchy
reference.  If one wants to slice the myth away from the facts about
Barrymore's performances, and get a line on what happened when, THE
place to go is Michael Morrison's book *John Barrymore: Shakespearean
Actor* published by Cambridge University Press and still in print.
