I suggest that Marcus read ALL of Peter Blayney's "The Publication of
Playbooks" in _A New History of Early English Drama_. eds. John D. Cox
and David Scott Kastan. New York: Columbia, 1997: 383-422, then see if
he "buys this."
I think he will find that Blayney pretty comprehensively demonstrates
that there was not "money to be made from publishing plays." What he
does say is that these peaks were probably that well known modern
phenomenon called advertising (386).
