Dr Olson is probably right about the Elsinore connection with the
supernova (or it may have been the comet of 1577), although not
necessarily for the reasons he believes. As has been pointed out
several times before, Shakespeare probably took the names Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern from the engraved title page (or is the frontispiece?)
to one of Tycho Brahe's books - Tycho was descended from both
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern! It is not impossible that Shakespeare
actually read the book.
