[Editor's Note: In the future, I will saving pop culture citations until
I get six or so to make one digest rather than sending out these
citations as the arrive. The exception will be if the citation is time
sensitive, with an upcoming broadcast date, for example. I will also ask
that those members who regularly submit pop culture citation, not send
in the citations individually but in groups of six or so. I made this
announcement and request in the interest of reducing traffic on the list
and in making my work more manageable. -Hardy]

Every June queen's Birthday long weekend, Canberra is blighted by an
appalling petrol fuelled testosterone display called 'The Stegbar
Canberra 400'. It is apparently some sort of car race around the
Parliamentary triangle. For all you US and Brit subscribers, it is the
equivalent of 3 days of hooting and roaring around The Capitol or
Westminster. (yes, I am getting to the point!). This morning (Sunday 2
June), the local newspaper contains a guide to the event. Front page
has a photo of cars, Parliament House in the background and the
caption???? A mixed metaphor worthy of football (rugby; league and
union) commentators:

Cry, 'Havoc!'
and let slip the dogs of war....
O tempora! o mores
