Subject: MoV Quoted in THE PIANIST by Polanski

"If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? If
you poison us, do we not die?"

In Polanski's latest masterpiece on the Warsaw Jews during WWII, one ot
he characters, a a paperback edition of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, with an
oval reproduction of the Droeshout portait,in his hands quotes
Shakespeare. His brother answers simply: "Very appropiate". (THE
PIANIST, by Roman Polanski, 2002)

Another occasion when Shakespeare becomes our spectator, Jan Kott
acknowledgment included.
