"The MED at UMichigan is password protected, so you must be the
beneficiary of a subscription. Unless there's some free version
somewhere?"
No, it's legitimately Free-On-Line, but they switch the password on a
month-on-month basis.
Also, the link to the password isn't exactly intuitive -- I'll see if I
can dig out the URL for you.
Ho, hum ...

Today's word (until my birthday) seems to be:
mecdemo
7ankinwh
... the username -- mecdemo [short, it seems, for Middle English
Compendium] -- is always the same, but they switch the password every
month.
Whoever is running this is a computer mavin with a freaked sense of
humour [or a dumb robot] -- I +mean+, alphabetic spaghetti soup plus a
number -- this is both awkward to key-in, and pretty transparent.
My best-guess is that eventually, they're going to switch to
Pay-to-View, and as of now, they're simply making it awkward to access.
Bloody stupid if you ask me ...
Robin
