Subject: Dogberry

Dear Listmembers:

I am beginning work on a conference paper examining the editing of
Dogberry, particularly the annotations purporting to explain his
intended meanings. My research facilities are rather limited, but I can
access the MLA, and I have Leah Marcus's book Unediting the Renaissance,
which is guiding some of my thinking about these annotations. If anyone
knows of any book that would be pertinent to a focus on Dogberry, I
would appreciate hearing about it.

I am considering how Dogberry's language seems to reflect a Reformist
theological perspective: "Thou wilt be condemned into everlasting
redemption for this" (5.2.53-54). This contrasts to the more Catholic
language and symbolism of Claudio's penance. Suggestions will be
appreciated.
