Subject: SAA and Ferry Service

Those attending SAA may want to be aware of a possible transportation
problem. The Sidney ferry station, it is the station used to go from
the U.S. to Victoria and back, will be closed from early February
through April 12 (the last day of the conference) for renovation. I
wrote Washington State Transit to ask if there was any other way to
Victoria as was told simply:

>Our International Run will be closed from February 1, 2003 through
>April 12, 2003.

So that seems to be that. I'm not sure, but there may be a back door
way by taking a ferry to Vancouver, then on to the other ferry station
near Victoria, even though the statement from the WST seems to preclude
that. Perhaps SHAKSPER members in the area can tell us more? Right now
it looks like the best, and perhaps only route is to fly directly into
Victoria, and for people like me, give up our plans to visit friends on
San Juan Island prior to the conference.

All the best,
Mike Jensen
