For a general reference you might look at the Meridian Handbook of
Classical Mythology (now, I think, out of print, but still available in
many second-hand bookstores both on and off the web). Penguin has a
handbook out, although I haven't seen it. I'm sure there are others.

Joe Canzoneri may well have thought of this, but I would want to add
that, in England at least, one cannot now safely assume that students
are familiar with the basic pattern of the Christian mythos.
