But...but....Bad Shakespeare is WONDERFUL! Really. It refocuses your
mind. You pay attention to detail you never noticed. As your mind is
shrieking, "NO! Not that way!" the other way is flashing with
astonishing clarity into your consciousness.
I once saw a Much Ado with the world's worst Beatrice and Benedick. As a
result, I noticed the secondary characters as I never had before.
I treasure bad Shakespeare. Especially for what it taught me as a
playwright: No matter what harm is done in production, the play returns
safely intact, to be done again.
