Subject: Valuable On-Line Reference Resource for Students

Members of the list may be interested in the following site, which
offers free access to a really superb dictionary -- one that contains
not only extensive definitions (including many pre-modern usages) but
also very helpful etymologies. Unlike many dictionaries, this one also
contains (in the "cyclopedia" section) brief discussions of important
people, places, and events, as well as definitions of phrases (not just
isolated words). The whole thing is also splendidly illustrated. For
students who lack easy on-line access to the OED, this may be a useful
tool.
