Subject: MOV Production Banned?
I was reading a book, Shylock and Shakespeare, by the Jewish actor
Abraham Morevski. In a note dated 1933, he makes the following claim:
"[in the 1930's] The United States of America banned the production of
The Merchant of Venice as anti-Semitic propaganda!" (x) I can't find
anything to back up this statement, nor do I have any information about
a specific production he might be referring to. Morevski seems a bit
inclined to hyperbole and not too worried about scrupulous accuracy.
Does anyone know what production(s) or policy he might be referring to
in his statement?
Thanks,
-Alex
