I don't think many lexicographers would agree with you.
More importantly, somebody has to enforce the system of democracy, and I
shouldn't trust the people who are trying to win elections to enforce it
on themselves, especially if they can dress themselves in the
self-righteousness of speaking in the voice of "the people", "the
state", "the republic" or the various other abstractions that substitute
for the crown in republics.
