Populist, sarcastic, and seedy: bad boys of the academy take music of
the interwar years (1930s - 1940s) to the mass audience.
Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale crashes on to the stage with crass street
Milhaud's The Creation of the World evokes a primal birth ritual with
steamy blues and jazz. And music from Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera
("Mack The Knife") brings the underworld to the stage. Cole Porter's
Miss Otis Regrets, Love For Sale, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye
This concert is presented in conjunction with the Brooklyn Museum of
Art's exhibition -- Pulp Art: Vamps, Villains, and Victors from the
Robert Lesser Collection (May 15 - October 19, 2003)
