Subject: Shakespeare in Georgia (Caucasus)

For those interested, there was a very interesting piece recently in The
Guardian (www.guardian.co.uk) by Robert Parsons, new director of Radio
Liberty for Georgia (ex Soviet Republic of) on the Shakespearean tragedy
of Eduard Shevardnaze, who's been compared to King Lear by some of his
Shakespeare-loving compatriots. Georgians are very fond of Shakespeare,
in particular the tragedies, and it's quite common to give children
Shakespearean names such as Hamlet and Othello.
