Subject: Two Noble Kinsmen in New York
The NYTimes gives a pretty favorable review to the rarely performed
Shakespeare-Fletcher Two Noble Kinsmen, produced for the first time in
its history by the NY Shakespeare Festival:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/21/arts/theater/21NOBL.html "The rarity
of an appearance by 'The Two Noble Kinsmen' is in itself a pretty good
reason to visit the Joseph Papp Public Theater....But another one is
that as directed by Darko Tresnjak, this strange, tonally ambiguous
amalgam of comic plot and tragic lamentation is enthralling. And though
novelty is undoubtedly part of the show's appeal, Mr. Tresnjak's
confident production overcomes some occasional heavy-handedness and some
uncertain acting to find the genuinely pungent melancholy in this story
of love - all kinds of love - that bears bitter fruit."
