An NPR program, "This American Life," hosted by Ira Glass, last night
presented an hour long discussion of a program at Northeast Missouri
State prison. A cast of inmates presented Hamlet. It is a high
security prison, and it was not possible for the cast to get enough
rehearsal time, so it had to present it one act at a time, with months
I strongly urge anyone with access to NPR to listen to repeats of the
show. The insights are amazing. The gentlest of the cast were repeat
armed robbers, and it was fascinating listening to murderers talk about
Hamlet's options, and relating street life to Hamlet.
