Hi All,
You can listen to "This American Life" online -- though the buffering
can get annoying if you don't have high speed access. The murderers
doing Hamlet was actually broadcast for the first time in August 9,
2002. I ran across it when I was looking through their archives sometime
over Christmas break last year. It's called "Act V" and it is listed as
episode 218. Here's a bit from the description on their website:
"Shakespeare may seem an odd match for a group of hardened criminals,
but he found that they understand the bard on a level most of us might
not. It's a play about murder and its consequences, performed by
murderers, living out the consequences."
I was moved to tears in some parts. Listening to this program really
made me feel what a difference Shakespeare, as well as the arts in
general, can make in people's lives. It's amazing what we can take for
granted.
The website for This American Life is http://www.thislife.org/.
Best,
Marcia Eppich-Harris

Michael B. Luskin writes: An NPR program, "This American Life," hosted
by Ira Glass, last night presented an hour long discussion of a program
at Northeast Missouri State prison.
I was able to listen to this excellent show on line by clicking on
