I am a native New Yorker, and, for as long I can remember, Al Pacino has
been a staunch Shakespeare lover.

I literally tried to escape from his theatrical turn as Richard III,
who, for some bizarre reason known only to Pacino, was played with a
Brooklyn Jewish accent. There was little redemption for Richard (or
Pacino for that matter) with Looking for Richard.

Maybe Pacino will do better with the Merchant. That said, it's nice to
know that the Shakespeare film craze may not be all that dead.
