Subject: Shrew As You Like It.
Some hope for the RSC with a sparkling Shrew that has a devastatingly
good portrayal of the psychological insecurities of Kate and Petruchio
and some splendidly funny interpretations through "business" of the odd
line or two that usually only makes half sense but merits a yard of
gloss. AYLI in the Swan also gets to grips with some of the wordier
passages and renders them fresh with certain oblique approaches in the
action that come in at acute angles to the text. A splendid time is
guaranteed for all. Also, lots of "No Vacancies" signs in the Stratford
windows. Coincidence?
