Subject: Shakespeare on the Run
Hi-
I saw the NY Classical Theater production of Much Ado About Nothing
(Shakespeare on the Run) in Central Park on Friday evening. We FINALLY
had some sunshine in NY. The production, which ran about 110 minutes
without intermission, was a delight. The constant relocation of scene
every 7-8 minutes allowed the director freedom to utilize the trees,
bushes and rocks in the park in creative ways. The continual movement
(and plenty of snacks) also kept my seven year old daughter, who was
attending her first full-length Shakespeare production, genuinely
engaged and entertained throughout the performance. Nikki E. Walters as
Beatrice was particularly strong. The "Kill Claudio" scene (Beatrice
picked up a rapier and the two dueled) was the highlight of the play.
Dogberry was cut from the text, but this energetic production worked
without him.
Let's hear it for free Shakespeare in NY!
