Subject: City-wide Teen Shakespeare
To you all....
I am from Worcester. Ma (which abuts Leicester Mass) and suffer the
slings and arrows of outrageous pronunciation..except I actually abide
in Shrewsbury Ma which in England is pronounced something like
A fellow teacher and I are organizing a Teen Shakespeare Club (name will
be become catchier as time goes by) which dreams of having students from
all (or some) of the secondary schools in Central MA meet once a month
for a workshop which aims to 'put Shakespeare on feet rather than only
in text" but also to allow students who love, like or are intrigued by
the Bard to discover there are others like them (aka finding the group).
Both of us trained with Shakespeare and Co in western MA whose
philosophy we preach ("Shakespeare meant to be performed not
read"..ooops relax all you text teachers!)
Perhaps it will also develop into a noncompetitive (our choice) festival
at some point but here's the rub...
Any suggestions as to how we will determine the number of students from
There are two of us willing to run the workshops... now if we have 100
kids...uh-hu no good...We are meeting with the teachers in early Sept
for their input but I just thought that maybe some of you have had this
experience. Also any suggestions on a catchy name which says
"Shakespeare and Teens" that also might evoke a quote....
