Subject: King Lear, in Three Words
Soames Forsyte, a main character in the "Forsyte Saga" Series II, goes
to the theater to see King Lear and, as the NYTimes says, "Soames
testily sums up the plot this way: 'Father, daughters, inheritance. The
usual thing.'"
The three-part series begins on PBS Masterpiece Theatre this Sunday.
Soames, although often detestable, was in the first series in 2002 a
fascinating character in the style of some Shakespeare protagonists like
Richard III: What *will* he do, what fresh outrage will he commit next?
